Abstract
This study uses a qualitative grounded theory approach to assess the impact of Challenge- Based Learning (CBL) on the development of entrepreneurial leadership competencies within graduate programs in hospitality. In light of the rapidly changing and uncertain hospitality landscape, it is necessary to cultivate agile, entrepreneurial leaders capable of making a difference in and through start-ups and organisations. The research collects data from graduate programs that integrated real-world industry challenges in their content and applies the grounded theory approach to analyse the data derived from participant observations, a compilation of work-in-progress resources, and written reflections from the students. The study aims to address a gap in the hospitality education literature that has largely overlooked the application of CBL in fostering entrepreneurial leadership. Theoretical and practical implications specific to the use of the CBL approach will be discussed, with strategies offered to help prepare hospitality graduates to thrive in the complex and ever-changing field of hospitality.
