Reinvigoration of visitation to Heritage Properties: A case of popular cinematic mediums
Abstract
The purpose of this discourse is to provoke discussion on the synergy between fashion
exhibitions, heritage tourism venues and media inspirations. Fashion exhibitions come in many guises. The exhibition could display current or past styles and trends, thus providing a window into the society of that time, exhibit costumes from the theatre stage, or, as in recent times, offer viewing access to the costumes utilised in popular and adored television or film. The specific focus of this paper is to discuss the incentives of heritage properties management to forge partnerships with costume designers and film/television productions to curate a costume exhibition, while also deliberating on the reasons why the wider community attend this genre of fashion inspired exhibition.
