The potential for hospitality establishments to offer experiences which contribute to the remembrance and commemoration of the First World War has been overlooked in research. This paper calls for research into the links between hospitality and remembrance of war and suggests that hospitality provides opportunities for a range of visitor experiences. Battle sites, war-time buildings and the names of pubs and cafes can act as markers of war in a landscape that is virtually devoid of battle evidence. Hospitality establishments can also facilitate opportunities for interactions between battlefield visitors, and may also provide some relief from the emotionally difficult experiences of visiting sites of mass death.en_US
