The pedagogy of place designed at Moreton Bay uses the edge as a metaphor to integrate different aspects of the Centre's educational programs that focus on history, ecology and marine science. The pedagogy of the edge encompasses this notion of challenging students beyond their comfort zones so that they step beyond the edge of their competence into new experiences and possibilities for the future. The pedagogy of the edge is designed to connect students to this place of contours and boundary conditions. The edge resonates with the anxieties of concerned scientists and citizens who wonder if human activity and negligence might push Dugong and other species over the edge. In the pedagogy of the edge these overlapping stories of biodiversity, beauty and anxiety are told in different ways by the educators to reach students of all ages. Everyone acknowledges that the Bay is under unrelenting pressure from urbanisation and overuse.en_US
