Purpose This study investigates the necessary measures Australian hotels need to implement to make a meaningful contribution towards achieving long-term environmental sustainability. This study aimed to ascertain the focal points as perceived by hotel managers. The present research encompassed various hotels characterised by distinct profiles and management frameworks. Design/Methodology/Approach The study consisted of conducting individual interviews with hotel management. The selection of the sample and its size were designed to encompass all parts of the hotel business, such as international chain-affiliated hotels, Australian chain-affiliated hotels, and independent hotels. Findings According to an examination of the findings, the essential principles for the future can be easily incorporated into the daily operations of these hotels without requiring substantial financial resources. Additionally, it has been found that owners wield the most significant degree of control over these practices, given that their investments hold the most significant impact. Originality/Value The stakeholder theory informs this study. Hotel owners heavily influence the environmental sustainability measures of the Australian hotel business. Based on the assertions made by the hotel managers in this research, implementing environmental sustainability measures within the hotel industry is a multifaceted endeavour, primarily due to numerous stakeholders with divergent agendas and interests.en_US
