Abstract

This conceptual paper examines three aspects of the employment relationship in the People’s Republic of China as it tackles issues concerned with globalisation and impending accession to the World Trade Organization. The influences of national culture on human resource practices pose significant challenges in this new environment. This is especially the case in thinking about performance management, human resource development, and remuneration. These components of the employment relationship are discussed in the context of organizations in the new economy of the People’s Republic of China.
